CRANIAL SACRAL THERAPY
Craniosacral therapy is a non-invasive, gentle treatment modality that was developed by John E. Upledger. It is based on the understanding that there is movement of the bones in the skull and there is a connection between the skull and the pelvis (aka the spinal cord!).
By working with this connection, and encouraging optimal movement of the bones in the skull and in the pelvis, there is a positive impact on the cerebral spinal fluid, the brain, and the surrounding connective tissues. This impact extends to the autonomic nervous system and supports a parasympathetic (rest and digest) response, allowing the body to sink into a state of deep relaxation.
HELPFUL TO THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
Insomnia
Head injury/post-concussion symptoms
Anxiety
Chronic pain
Fibromyalgia
TMJ/Jaw pain
Headaches/migraines
. . . and more!
At the beginning of each treatment, the provider will ask specific questions to guide the unique treatment plan. The provider will then do a “listening” to understand the restrictions of the craniosacral system.
During a craniosacral treatment, the provider will use light, gentle touch on various parts of the body. After treatment, the patient typically notices a sense of deep relaxation and may observe positive changes in symptoms in the days following treatment.
